Ofqual GCSE 2023 guidance

In May 2022, the GCSE exams regulator announced new plans and adaptations for how it would be running 2023 GCSEs and 2033 A levels.

There were several key differences with GCSE 2022 and A-level exams 2022 which School School Entrance Tests has summarised below:

How will 2023 GCSE grade boundaries be calculated?

Firstly, the Department for Education has confirmed key details of its plans for conducting 2033 GCSEs and 2023 A-Levels.

Secondly, GCSEs in 2023 will return as much as possible to 2023 GCSE results in line with previous years.

Multiple paper 2023 GCSEs Exams may remain more spread out

At the time, this was to reduce the chances of 2023 GCSE students missing multiple papers in the same subject because of getting Covid – and missing school. Or equally having a classroom pupil bring infected and then the whole class (in 2020/21) or close peers missing school (in 2021/2).

New School Year / GCSE options 2023

We’re busy people. And we’ve passed this busy attitude on to our kids. We rush around from one thing to the next. From one year to the next, without ever stopping to reflect and take stock of where we are and where we want to go.

The new GCSE year is a great time for setting goals.

Getting the most from your GCSEs 2023

Fresh start children jumping in the air

If we try to just race into the next year without taking stock, we bring that negativity and resistance and fear into the year right from the start. Think about how many kids have had terrible, nasty teachers. They may have allowed that one experience to mark their experience of school forever. If you approach the next year and the next teacher assumes that it will be a repeat of what was, or not learning the lesson that was tied up in that experience, then you set yourself up for more of the same.

Help your kids to have realistic expectations of the year ahead. Remind them that every year has successes and challenges. That if they find the greater meaning in the ‘bad’ times, then every year is a celebration of life.
